Sophie Q&A: “It’s actually quite cringey watching yourself reading a children’s story”

The track you gave away, Young Blood, had a great response.
Yeah, I was really happy with the demo - which is the one we gave away - but I think the finished article is a slightly more developed version. That’s what I really wanted from the recording process. And with Young Blood we recorded it in the room, with double bass, piano, drums and me singing there with all the musicians. I think we did three or four takes. It was quite sweet actually, because being a love song, the song was definitely inspired by my relationship with Richard and while I was singing it I looked over and I could see him in the little studio kitchen, mooching about on his computer and stuffing his face with all the bits and bobs. I was like, “Yeah, there he is! That’s my husband!” I can still remember looking at him while I was singing it and he was totally oblivious. It was quite sweet.
